To the left of Adisham’s front gates, a signed walking track runs west for about 8km along the crest of the ridge through the tranquil Tangamale Sanctuary. It’s a serene walk through pine and eucalyptus groves sheltering birds like mini-verts, green barbets, blue magpies, hornbills and orioles. The trail ends at the railroad tracks for a walk back to Haputale or onward to Idalgshinna.

One should not miss a train journey from Haputale to a close by station such as Demodara or Ella and travel through some of the most picturesque scenery in the Country and quaint old railway stations where time has stood still. Ella, Sri Lanka’s newest “Traveller’s Town” with a laid-back vide is only a few railway stations away or will take 35 minutes by car. The visit to Ella must be coupled with a visit to the famous Nine Arches Bridge in Demodara.

And you will enjoy a drive around to see the Country’s most scenic waterfalls (Diyaluma, Bambrakanda, and Ravana Ella) which are all located close to Haputale. Day excursions could also be done to the wildlife sanctuaries of Yala or Udawalawe, as well as to the beaches in Arugum Bay or even to Hambantota or Nuwara Eliya for a round of golf. We could give you a packed lunch to have at leisure during your journey.
